Supporting Roadside Encampments

COSLA is supporting local authorities to take a public health approach to supporting families living roadside. This includes the provision of safe stopping places, access to sanitation, and essential services such as education and health.

COSLA has been working with local authorities to deliver a Negotiated Stopping Pilot to improve the support that is available to people who are camping roadside as part of their cultural identity and nomadic lifestyle. The evaluation of the pilot project was published in July 2024 and is available here.

Recommendations from the evaluations will be delivered through the Second National Action Plan.
