Elected Member Briefings
We have published a number of briefing notes for elected members in conjunction with our partners at the Improvement Service. In April 2017 we published a Briefing Note on humanitarian protection issues. This summarises the key role that Scottish local authorities are playing to support people who are seeking protection in this country and includes background information on various schemes including the Syrian Resettlement Programme and the broader work that has been conducted in relation to the New Scots refugee integration strategy.
A further Briefing Note was published in April 2017 in relation to Gypsy/Travellers. Meeting the needs of Gypsy/Travellers and settled communities is complex and sensitive, and can present significant challenges for elected members. This particular briefing is designed to raise awareness of a suite of recently published, and soon to be published, guidance and briefings relating to Gypsy/Travellers.
We have also published a more general Briefing Note and Executive Summary on migration as part of the same briefing series. The statistics in this 2012 briefing will now be out of date, but it still provides factual information on migration which could assist elected members in dealing with issues that are raised regarding the perceived and actual impacts of migration in their localities.
While these briefings are specifically designed to provide baseline information to elected members, they may also be of interest to council officers and other partners with an interest in these issues.
